About Phil
I believe local government works best when it listens first, plans carefully, and solves problems instead of arguing about them.
I believe Rutherford County deserves practical leadership, honest problem-solving, and a government that remembers who it works for: the people who call this place home. I didn’t choose Western North Carolina by accident—I chose to stay. I grew up nearby in Polk County and have spent my life in Western North Carolina. Like so many of us, I love this place for more than its scenery—I love the people, the strong sense of community, and the feeling that neighbors still matter here.
After high school, I attended NC State University, where I earned a degree in Computer Science and graduated at the top of my class. Yes, I could’ve built a career in a larger city, but that wasn’t the life I wanted, home mattered more to me. So, I’ve worked to build a career that allowed me to put down roots and invest in Rutherford County and I’ve made my life here because I believe in what this place is—and what it can become.
I’m running for County Commissioner because Rutherford County has enormous potential, and we’ve spent too long with leaders who settle for less than what’s possible. We should be creating opportunities for families to thrive, supporting good jobs, strengthening education, planning responsibly for growth, and making sure people can afford to build a life here because we cannot afford to leave opportunities on the table while families struggle with rising costs and uncertainty about the future.
Because This County Is Worth Fighting For.
The Rutherford County We Deserve
People can feel that something is changing in Rutherford County, even if it’s hard to put into words. Every year, it can feel like there’s a little less that belongs to ordinary people: schools close, gathering spaces disappear, young people leave, and longtime residents feel increasingly priced out of the communities they helped build. I Believe we can choose a different future—one where growth strengthens local communities, creates opportunity, and ensures Rutherford County remains a place where families can build a life, not just get by.
Restoring Trust In Local Government
Too many people feel disconnected from the decisions that shape their lives. Residents deserve a county government that listens, communicates clearly, and treats public input as more than a box to check. Trust grows when decisions are transparent and leaders remember they work for the people they serve. I believe government should be open and accountable to the community.
A Community Where Everyone Belongs
Too many people in Rutherford County feel disconnected, isolated, or overlooked. Young people struggle to find opportunity and community. Families feel stretched thin. Seniors, disabled residents, rural communities, and our marginalized neighbors who’ve long felt unheard often struggle to access the support, connection, and public spaces that help communities thrive. Strong communities don’t happen by accident. We need places to gather, opportunities to connect, and local leadership that remembers every resident matters—no matter who they are or what challenges they face.
“I’m not running to build a political career. I’m running because Rutherford County deserves leaders who show up like this county is worth fighting for.”
